Mission to Lead with Purpose

For Julian “Jules” Stephens, service isn’t just a career—it’s a calling that continues to evolve. After more than two decades in the U.S. Air Force and NATO, Jules now serves as a Senior Technical Advisor at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. There, he leverages deep expertise in cyber and supply chain strategy to align cutting-edge innovation with national defense priorities helping translate emerging technologies into mission-ready solutions for the Department of Defense.

Jules transitioned from the military during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time that brought added uncertainty to an already complex process. “Translating my DoD experience and skillset to the civilian industry—and having it resonate—was one of the greatest challenges,” he recalls. “I wanted to take a risk to pursue my passion to foster sustainable business practices in a role that enabled meaningful, positive impact in human lives.”

That drive led him to COMMIT, where he attended a transition workshop at Blackstone Headquarters in New York City. He was immediately struck by the program’s authenticity. “I found very engaging, knowledgeable, and COMMITed personnel that guided and challenged me to pursue my passion,” said Jules.

With determination and self-reflection, Jules overcame the hurdles of transition and went on to manage high-impact programs with budgets exceeding $1.2 billion. His leadership philosophy—rooted in integrity and strategic clarity—is reinforced by executive education from Wharton and MIT and a deep personal commitment to resilience.

Since then, Jules has mentored at COMMIT’s Seattle Workshops at Amazon Headquarters in 2024 and 2025. In April, he shared his insights with transitioning service members: “Research what you’re passionate about. Ask questions, ask for help. Don’t let fear rule—you’re not alone on your journey. You can build a second career doing what you want to do – not just what you have to do. And always give back and pay it forward.”

Now based in the Pacific Northwest to be closer to his college-aged children, Jules continues to champion growth, balance, and meaningful impact—whether mentoring veterans, shaping future technologies, or strengthening national security.
