After more than 30 years in the Marine Corps and 20 moves around the world, Mike Gough entered military retirement with decades of leadership experience behind him—but he wasn’t finished growing. He wanted to understand what success could look like beyond the uniform and find a mission that truly inspired him.
“I didn’t need someone to tell me I would succeed—I needed someone to ask me the hard questions about what success actually meant.”
Through COMMIT, Mike found people willing to do exactly that. His transition coach, Sandy Travis, challenged him to honestly evaluate his priorities rather than simply pursue the opportunities that seemed most obvious. Scott Vedder then helped him transform his resume from a list of accomplishments into a compelling story of leadership and value.
Today, Mike serves as President of Quanta Services Solutions Puerto Rico, where he helps rebuild Puerto Rico’s electric grid while leading multiple businesses and developing the next generation of utility professionals.
“I can draw a direct line from the clarity and confidence COMMIT gave me during my transition to the opportunity I have today to build organizations, strengthen communities, and continue serving a mission larger than myself.”
That impact continues today as Mike creates new opportunities for others, including founding Puerto Rico’s first technical college dedicated to training electrical lineworkers.
Mike’s journey embodies COMMIT’s mission—helping veterans find the clarity, confidence, and purpose to continue leading and serving beyond the uniform.
